Young sisters on their way to a family vacation were unfortunately unable to reach their destination due to an accident on I-75 in Otsego County that took both of their lives.
Young sisters on their way to a family vacation in northern Michigan die after traffic accident
Sisters traveling to northern Michigan for a family vacation were killed when a vehicle crossed the median and struck their vehicle.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police Gaylord post have reported that Kaele Lynn Polzin, 22, and Sara Summerlyn Polzin, 16, of Richmond, were the people killed in the accident that occurred on I-75 in Otsego County around 2:35 p.m. June 20.
The father of the two victims who was also rolling down the road next to them but was traveling in a separate vehicle saw the vehicle cross the median and strike the vehicle occupied by his daughters, police said.
Police say a 2006 Mercury Montego Mercury Montego driven by a 21-year-old Harrison woman was then traveling southbound on I-75 and trying to avoid a collision when it left the highway, crossed the median and crashed into the sisters’ 2014 Toyota Prius .
Both sisters were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota, a 22-year-old Rochester man, was transported to Otsego Memorial Hospital.
The driver of the Mercury was transported to Otsego Memorial Hospital and then airlifted to Traverse City Munson Hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to police.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by Otsego County EMS, Department of Natural Resources conservation officers, Gaylord Police Department officers and Otsego County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
