In Iran, a young man was tortured by members of his own family and beheaded after discovering the victim’s sexual orientation in his military service exemption file.
According to information gathered by pink news and Iranian activists, Alireza Fazeli-Monfared, 20, fled his country to Turkey, where his partner Aghil Abyat was waiting for him, and then sought refuge in Europe.
In the Islamic Republic of Iran, homosexuality is a crime that carries penalties ranging from imprisonment to the cultivation of crucial bodies and even death, according to the country’s religious laws.
Because of the shame that Alireza’s sexual orientation has brought on his family, his brother and cousins decided to set a trap for the young man and then kill him near Ahvaz, the capital of Khuzestan province.
Three people were arrested who tried to organize the murder committed on May 4.
The mother of Alireza and the man responsible for his death had to be hospitalized following a nervous breakdown.
Activists in Iran pointed out that part of the blame lies with the military system that exhibits people from the LGBT community.
