Important information about the Woolite Delicates detergent recall.

Understanding the recall

On Thursday, a significant recall was announced for Woolite Delicates laundry detergent, affecting over 16,000 bottles sold exclusively on Amazon. This voluntary recall stems from concerns regarding potential exposure to harmful bacteria that could lead to serious infections.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a warning, urging consumers to check their bottles for specific lot codes: S24364, S24365, and S24366, which are located on the top of the bottle.

The recall highlights the importance of consumer awareness regarding the products they use daily.

With the rise of online shopping, it’s crucial to stay informed about product safety, especially when it comes to household items that can impact health.

Health risks associated with the bacteria

The CPSC has identified that the affected detergent may contain Pseudomonas species of bacteria, including Pseudomonas oleovorans.

This environmental organism is commonly found in soil and water. While healthy individuals typically do not experience adverse effects, those with weakened immune systems or external medical devices are at a heightened risk of serious infections. The bacteria can enter the body through the eyes or through breaks in the skin, making it essential for vulnerable populations to avoid exposure.

As of now, there have been no reported incidents or injuries linked to this recall. However, the potential health risks underscore the need for vigilance among consumers, particularly those who may be more susceptible to infections.

Steps for consumers to take

If you have purchased Woolite Delicates detergent with the specified lot codes, it is crucial to stop using the product immediately. The CPSC advises consumers to contact the manufacturer, Reckitt, for a full refund. To facilitate the return process, customers should write their name and the word “Recalled” in permanent marker on the back of the bottle.

Additionally, a photo of the bottle showing the UPC and lot code must be taken and emailed to [email protected].

Once the refund is processed, it’s important to dispose of the product safely. The CPSC recommends sealing the bottle tightly and throwing it in the trash without emptying it or recycling the container. This precaution helps prevent any accidental exposure to the bacteria.
