A 21-year-old British woman was killed by a dog her brother adopted to try to help her with her mental health problems.
Keira Ladlow, who suffered from an unstable personality disorder, was found at her brother’s home in Birmingham, England, after a Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross attacked her.
Kayden Barrett, Ladlow brother, testified before the Birmingham coroner that when he returned home on February 5, 2021, he found his sister “lifeless” on the living room floor “covered in blood” with the dog, named Gucci. The BBC reported.
“I feel responsible even though I couldn’t do anything that day, I panicked and didn’t know what to do, I’ve always looked after her,” Barrett said.
Barrett told the court that the dog had “adapted” well to them and had been very good to him and his sister. But the night before the incident, his sister said she feared the dog would bite her.
Ladlow’s brother said he dismissed her concern because he thought she believed he was talking nonsense for not taking his medication.
In a statement, West Midland police said neighbors reported hearing a dog barking, and a woman running between 10:00 and 11:00.
Unfortunately for the animal, authorities took the dog away and euthanized it.
