Two men who intervened to prevent “two girls from being raped” were seriously injured after being beaten, and one of them will need facial reconstruction surgery.

The hospitalized couple, aged 19 and 25, have been hailed as heroes by friends and family, as well as others on social media.
Police are now searching for the attackers of the two who came to the aid of two girls in distress in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent.

One of the victims will need facial reconstruction surgery at the Royal Stoke University Hospital. Staffordshire Police have not yet made any arrests following the attack at 5.18am on Sunday.
Friends and family have taken to Facebook to pay tribute.
Ben Mortimer said, “My stepson and his friend showed pure bravery to prevent the rape of two girls. These two deserve a medal for putting themselves in harm’s way. My stepson has several broken bones in his face due to the boys kicking him in the face.”
Shelly Metcalfe added, “Just so everyone knows. My brother and his friend stopped an attempted rape and were beaten for it.” Some readers have been supportive of the brave.
Neil Watkins said, “Two heroes. I hope they recover quickly because without them the outcome for the two young women would have been terrible. Take a bow lads, you should be proud of yourselves regardless of the outcome.”

Police have released descriptions of two men they want to speak to following yesterday’s attack.
Both men are black. One was wearing a white short-sleeved T-shirt and black vest with blue jeans, the other was wearing dark clothing.
