Three-year-old boy dies after being attacked by two pitbulls
A three-year-old boy has died in Carteret, Middlesex County, New Jersey, while his mother remains hospitalized with serious injuries after being attacked by two pit bull dogs.
According to some neighbors, the deceased child was playing in the backyard when the two dogs living next door somehow got around the fence separating the two properties and pounced on him.
The mother tried to help the boy, but was also attacked.
Several medical teams were sent to the scene and, given the seriousness of the injuries of both, they decided to evacuate them in a medical helicopter.
The family of five, of Pakistani origin, had moved from nearby Brooklyn only a month earlier.
Police officers who arrived to take charge of the situation had to put down the two pit bulls, and it is not known whether the owner of the animals will face criminal charges.
In the aftermath of the attack, there have been conflicting testimonies about the dangerousness of the dogs.
A neighbor who was familiar with the dogs said they never showed signs of aggressiveness before, but there are voices pointing the other way.
“Those pitbulls have bitten more people in this area.” assures another resident of the area.
