By the end of June, Britain’s medicines regulator had received reports of nearly 4,000 women experiencing problems with their menstruation after receiving the Covid vaccine.
Thousands of women report menstrual changes after Covid vaccination
The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency has so far received more than 13,000 reports from women across the country who have experienced changes in their periods after receiving the vaccine.
Experts say there is no evidence to believe that the coronavirus vaccine affects fertility, but there are reports of some women refusing the vaccine.
Speaking to Sky News, 25% of women receiving Covid also experience changes in their periods.
“We know that sex hormones affect the immune system and the immune system affects sex hormones, and we have some evidence that the flu vaccine, given at a certain time in the cycle, can slightly reduce the amount of progesterone you have, and it’s the balance between estrogen and progesterone that builds up and breaks down the lining of the uterus.
“So if this gets a little out of control, you can expect your menses to be heavier or delayed,” explains Dr. Viki Male.
Experts are concerned that an increasing number of young women are hesitant about the vaccine or are refusing to get it, putting pressure on the government’s plan to unblock the country.
Dr. Male said there is no scientific link between vaccination and fertility problems and warned that women may be more susceptible to problems during pregnancy if they contract Covid.
