In a heart-wrenching case that has captured the attention of many, 25-year-old Emma Baum vanished from Gary, Indiana, on October 10, just weeks before she was due to give birth to her fourth child. Her family is left grappling with unanswered questions and a growing sense of urgency as they search for their loved one.
Last seen at her boyfriend’s house
Emma was last seen being dropped off at her boyfriend’s residence, a detail that has raised suspicions among her family. Her sister, Hailey Baum-Waddell, expressed the emotional toll this situation has taken on their family, stating, “Looking for Emma has been a very struggling thing for everybody, mentally and physically and emotionally … but we’re not going to stop looking for her.” The family reported her missing on October 28, after days of concern when they could not reach her.
Community involvement and search efforts
Authorities have been actively involved in the search, utilizing K-9 units and conducting searches of various properties. However, the family has also taken matters into their own hands, organizing community search efforts that have drawn hundreds of volunteers.
Baum-Waddell noted, “There’s been a lot of people who have offered to come out and look for her,” highlighting the community’s commitment to finding Emma.
Concerns about her boyfriend’s involvement
As the investigation unfolds, suspicions have arisen regarding Emma’s boyfriend.
Baum-Waddell believes he may be hiding information that could be crucial to finding her sister. “We have not charged anyone with the disappearance of Emma Baum, and she has not been located yet,” stated Gary Police Cmdr. Jack Hamady, emphasizing the ongoing investigation.
The boyfriend, who was previously in custody for unrelated charges, has since been released, adding to the family’s concerns.
Emma is described as approximately 5 feet, 3 inches tall, weighing around 136 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
She has several tattoos and often wears colorful wigs. Her family is desperate for answers, hoping for a safe return. Baum-Waddell poignantly remarked, “It’s very difficult because now it’s not just her that’s missing. It’s her baby. And you don’t want to think, you know, the worst because who would want to, you know, hurt a girl and her baby?” The search for Emma Baum continues, with her family urging anyone with information to come forward.
