The Irish woman who lived once, was buried twice and killed her husband by accident
The story of a woman of no wealth, no amazing accomplishments, who became famous in and around Ireland because of her ring. Now her legend lives on as the woman who walked the earth twice.
According to local historian Jim Conway , the 1700s was a time of terrible famine. Margorie, among other Irish men, women and children, suffered from the horrible circumstances Ireland was going through.
She fell ill many times, until one day, her illness was the last time.
Marjorie McCall was announced dead from a mysterious fever. To ensure that the rest of the village would not contract the same illness, her husband and bereft children quickly buried her with heavy hearts.
Word spread that the doctor’s buried wife was buried with her jewelry: a ring on her middle finger worth a lot of money.
One night after her hasty funeral, two thieves sneaked into the Shankill Cemetery in Lurgan to steal the promised ring from the dead woman’s corpse.
The first thief attempted to remove the ring from Marjorie’s finger, but the stern finger would not allow him to remove the ring quickly.
Our brave thief pulled out his knife and quickly cut the freshly dead finger when the strangest thing happened: the dead lady opened her eyes!
According to the stories, the body stood up in oblivion of what was going on around her. The recipients of this unpleasant surprise stayed in their places in shock, and the two robbers died on the spot due to a heart attack from the gruesome scene they just witnessed.
Later, doctors explained that when the robber pulled out his knife and tried to cut off Marjorie’s finger, he brought her out of the coma no one knew she was in. When the angry dead started screaming, the robbers thought it was their spirit attacking them before they dropped dead in turn.
As if that wasn’t enough, the shocked body took a blank look at the two corpses of her awakeners before she started marching towards her husband to try to get an idea of what was going on.
When there was a knock at the door, Marjorie’s husband inside was shocked to hear the knocking.
“If your mom wasn’t dead already, I’d say it’s her knocking,” said Marjorie’s husband.
When the man opened the door, he saw the last face on Earth he expected to see. As Marjorie smiled at her husband’s familiar face, the doctor who had just buried his wife a day earlier couldn’t absorb the shock.
The doctor died of shock.
Margorie is said to have lived a long life, remarried and had many children. When she died, this time for good, the tombstone was erected and a legend was born.
