Jeremy Cook, his fiancée Johanna Manor and their 8-year-old daughter Adalicia had not been seen since January 16. But last Wednesday, after a ten-day search, police finally located the three in their pickup truck at the bottom of a ravine.
Tennessee family missing for two weeks found dead in truck at bottom of ravine
Family members first became concerned when the parents didn’t show up for work and the girl never made it to school. They contacted police to conduct a welfare check at the home on Jan. 21, but officers could find no leads.
“No suspicions,” said Lt. Doddo of the Hickman County Sheriff’s Office told WKRN. “Nothing seemed out of place, they ended up leaving.”
On Jan. 23, Johanna’s father finally filed a missing person report; investigators began querying bank records and checked license plate readers in several counties; they tried pinging their phones but encountered difficulties.
“We had misinformation about cell phone carriers that resulted in not being able to ping cell phones,” Lt. Doddo said. “This wasn’t a situation where we weren’t trying to ping the phone, this was a situation where a phone carrier is not a major brand name phone carrier. They don’t have the resources that they say AT&T, Verizon have.”
On Wednesday, investigators were finally able to get a ping, from Jan. 19, that led them to a 1.9-mile radius area off Interstate 840.
“We discovered a car about 30 yards to our left, kind of in a little ravine, that was hidden from view,” Doddo said.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, weather appears to have been the cause; They believe the truck hit a concrete median wall and overturned, falling 100 feet and landing in thick brush, where it remained hidden from view.
All three victims appeared to have been killed on impact.
