Teenager stabbed with scissors waiting for subway
A 28-year-old man randomly cut a teenager on the forehead with scissors at Penn, the city’s main station, early yesterday morning.
According to NYPD, the 17-year-old victim was standing on platform A, C and E at the 34th Street-Penn station stop just before 4 a.m., when the suspect suddenly cut him off without saying a word.
The attacker fled the station but was quickly arrested on the street, police said. The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was treated by a cut on his forehead, New York Post reported.
The bloody attack came two days after a 21-year-old homeless man allegedly stabbed a 31-year-old man who confronted him for masturbating in front of his wife outside Penn station. The suspect fled to the station, where he was arrested and charged with public lewdness and assault, police said.
To address the long-running crisis of insecurity and destitution in the New York City Subway, it was announced on Thursday that more police will monitor the stations and a special group will address the crisis of the homeless.
In August, the then Republican candidate for mayor of New York, Curtis Sliwa, called the situation of the homeless in Penn Station, Madison Square Garden and its tourist surroundings a “humanitarian crisis”. Since then, the picture has not improved.
