Teenager “blows himself up” with bomb at Orthodox school in Russia
“An 18-year-old former student of this school entered and blew himself up and, according to preliminary data, he was wounded and also a 15-year-old teenager,” the Moscow Region Interior Ministry said.
The attack took place in the Orthodox school adjacent to the Vvedensky Vladychniy convent in the city of Serpukhov, in the south of the Russian capital, according to the same source.
“Police officers on the scene evacuated teaching staff and pupils,” the ministry said, noting that the number of victims was being “pinpointed.”
Russian news agencies Ria Novosti, Tass and Interfax quoted unidentified police sources as saying seven people were injured.
Armed attacks of this type in public places and schools have been rare in Russia, but have increased in recent years, especially shootings, which has led to a tightening of legislation on carrying weapons.
