The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has said the 13-year-old girl found dead in the basement of a Manchester apartment complex was strangled and her death has been ruled a homicide.
The family identified the 13-year-old girl as Zaniya Wright. She was found in the apartment complex Friday morning, hours after her mother reported her missing.
Zaniya Wright, 13, was found Friday morning after she was reported missing Thursday night, according to her family.
OCME officials said Wright died due to neck compression.
Her mother contacted police at 8:30 p.m. Thursday and reported her missing, police said.
The 13-year-old girl was found dead at 8:30 a.m. Friday in the basement of the South Adams Apartments.
Police said she was found in a common area, not an apartment.
Manchester Public Schools confirmed that Zaniya was a student at Illing Middle School.
“I want to offer our sincere condolences and prayers to Zaniya’s family,” Superintendent Matt Geary said in a statement.
