Swedish teen arrested after knife attack in school
A scene of unusual violence inside a school itself took place in Sweden, this Thursday, August 19. A school worker was seriously injured during an attack at a university in the south of the country, in which a 15-year-old teenager was arrested on suspicion of “attempted murder”, authorities said.
Witnesses told local newspaper Skanska Dagbladet that the assailant, who at the time of the attack was wearing what appeared to be a bulletproof vest, a helmet and a skeleton mask, brandished a knife at a school in Eslöv, about forty kilometers from Malmö. Police have yet to confirm these details. Authorities received the alert around 8:40 a.m. local time.
On the spot, police opened fire. The suspect was not injured. By midday Thursday, authorities could not confirm to the press the motive for this act, nor whether its perpetrator was a student at the college.
“Police were able to subdue the suspect was quite agitated at the scene,” said Ewa-Gun Westford, police spokeswoman, during a press conference.
Students evacuated to adjacent building
The victim, a 45-year-old school worker, was taken to the hospital where she underwent surgery. While none of them were injured during the incident, which occurred the day after the start of the school year, the students were confined to their classrooms for more than an hour and a half, according to the press, before being evacuated to a building adjacent to the school.
