A woman who was out for a walk with her daughter and husband was assaulted and raped by a depraved man in a public restroom. The suspect tried to flee but the victim’s husband detained him until police officers arrived.
Subject charged with raping, beating woman in public restroom
A 28-year-old man is charged with sexual assault and robbery after police say he attacked a woman inside a restroom at Gulfport Premium Outlets.
An Oklahoma woman visiting southern Mississippi with her family is in the hospital recovering after police say she was brutally assaulted Monday at a Gulfport mall.
Authorities say the suspect, identified as Andrew Malik Jones, 28, was waiting inside the restroom at Gulfport Premium Outlets when the victim entered around 6:43 p.m. The victim told police that Jones pushed her into a stall, physically assaulted her and then raped her.
Police say the suspect then grabbed the victim’s purse and tried to flee. The victim’s husband has stated that Jones attempted to run across the parking lot toward Interstate 10, but the husband and others stopped him and held him there until officers arrived.
The woman received serious injuries, including a fractured skull, her husband said.
The woman was subsequently taken to a New Orleans hospital to receive treatment for her injuries. The husband has said he and his wife live in Oklahoma and are visiting the Mississippi Gulf Coast with their young daughter.
Jones is now charged with robbery and sexual battery. He is being held in the Harrison County Jail awaiting his initial appearance. Bond has been set at $500,000 for each charge.
