According to the police, the teenager attacked his 34-year-old mother, who complained to him for dropping out of school, being unemployed and wasting time in front of the screen.
After being scolded by his mother, the teenager allegedly took a knife and stabbed her in the stomach.
Police spokesman Fachrur Rozi said the boy immediately repented and ran outside to ask neighbors for help.
His mother was taken to the hospital, but died of her injuries later. The incident occurred in the city of Jepara in Indonesia’s Central Java province on Sunday afternoon, according to officials.
The boy’s father was not at home at the time of the attack, police said.
According to local media, the mother tried to protect her son by telling him to make up a lie about what had happened after he stabbed her.
She reportedly told him, “A mother’s love knows no bounds, tell your father that I was stabbed by a madman who broke into the house.”
Police said the teenager asked neighbors for help while claiming that his mother had been attacked by a madman.
However, the teenager’s neighbors did not believe him and reported the incident to police
Later, the boy confessed under interrogation that he had stabbed his own mother and was arrested, according to reports.
If convicted, the teenager could be jailed for up to 15 years and face a fine of about IDR 45 million ($3,160).
