It will be the biggest royal celebration in modern history : four days of festivities and celebrations at Windsor Castle to mark the Platinum Jubilee, which is the 70th year of Elizabeth’s reign.
Queen Elizabeth will celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in May 2022 for the 70th anniversary of her reign
Preparations for the big event, which will take place in May next year, are now at an advanced stage: and Buckingham Palace has begun to reveal the details.
Subjects will witness a “gallop through history”, from Elizabeth I to the present day , unraveled in a “very theatrical” show, deferential to the sovereign but with elements of “respectful fun and humor”.
500 horses and a thousand dancers and musicians will be used, the Royal Cavalry and horse artillery will parade, but also personalities from the entertainment world will be involved, from Helen Mirren to Stephen Fry: a show that wants to reflect “the diversity of the United Kingdom” and that, therefore, will see performances from Oman, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, France, Norway, Switzerland and Canada.
And not to be missed is “a big Bollywood-style number” straight from India. Of course, the other members of the Queen’s family will be present, but also her personal horses and ponies.
The preparation for the Jubilee even began two years ago : a further sign that Elizabeth has no intention of abdicating, at least not in the immediate future, despite her 95 years.
In fact, the Queen has been kept constantly informed about the preparations and the ceremony will reflect her tastes.
It will be a celebration of Elizabeth’s long reign, but also a panacea for the nation tested by two years of pandemic : four days of national holiday will follow in June, with more events.
