A newborn baby, complete with umbilical cord, was abandoned last Wednesday night on a bench in a public square in Guadalupe, Nuevo Leon, in northeastern Mexico.

Authorities have begun the corresponding inquiries to locate the mother of the child, who weighs just over 5 pounds (2.5 kg).
The discovery was made by a woman, a local resident, who was exercising in the plaza when she suddenly saw a bundle inside a blue garment on the bench. As she approached, she discovered that it was the baby, reported ABC Noticias.
Security officers went to the plaza located at the intersection of Benemérito de las Américas and Plateros streets, where they were able to confirm that the baby had vital signs and was taken to the local Materno Infantil Hospital.
The authorities will wait for the baby to recover in the health center, and then leave his fate in the hands of the Sistema de Desarrollo Integral de la Familia (DIF) of the state, the agency in charge of resolving this type of events.
According to a website, the police have begun the corresponding investigations with the State Investigation Agency (AEI), to locate the mother of the child, who weighs a little more than 5 pounds (2.5 kg).
