A video of a street food worker in New York City turned up washing his clothes in a puddle of rainwater, and people were in disbelief.

The video, which was originally uploaded to TikTok, shows the food cart, with a considerable amount of black garbage bags in the night lights of New York City.

“Just another rainy day in New York,” the caption on the screen read as you see the worker appear with a rag in hand, crunching on the sidewalk and soaking the rag in rainwater to supposedly “clean his food truck,” according to TikToker.

“This is disgusting,” said the text caption on the screen, evidently pointing out the lack of hygiene.

People in the comments of the video were appalled by the scene and even recounted experiences of why they prefer not to eat at food carts.

“My parents never let me eat here, and suddenly I’m not mad about it anymore,” someone wrote.

“Even if you’re cleaning the outside of your food truck, it’s still a big NOOO!” another added.

“My mom always told me never to eat from those carts.

She was like, ‘Where do they wash their hands ?!??!'”

Amid others in the comments giving their opinions on why they will continue to abstain from food carts, someone else reiterated that not all vendors act like this and wrote, “Please don’t generalize all food vendors because of one unhealthy man.

It is very harmful when they are trying to make a living.”

In an article published for NBC in 2019, an investigation found that some of New York City’s health commissioners had received countless violations, such as rat trails, food contamination and more.

There are about 130 street food commissioners and more than 5,000 listed carts in New York.
