New York City turns the page on the pandemic and says goodbye to facemasks as 60% of the population is vaccinated and not required to wear them.
New York City returns to normalcy and turns the page on the pandemic
New York City is slowly returning to normalcy after more than a year of near paralysis and being the epicenter of the covid–19 pandemic in the United States.
As restrictions imposed by the authorities are being lifted, more people are returning to work while domestic and foreign tourist visits continue to increase.
Optimism about the city’s future is again being felt in stores, restaurants, hotels and tourism businesses, among others, that have been hard hit economically by the coronavirus.
As of this Wednesday, May 19, it is no longer mandatory to wear this element (mask) for those who have been vaccinated. At the same time, other restrictions are being lifted as the coronavirus loosens in its territory.
Vaccinated persons will no longer be required to wear the mask, even indoors. After a few days of hesitation, New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo ratified this authorization from federal authorities, effective Wednesday.
Effective Wednesday, NYS will adopt the CDC’s new mask & social distancing guidance for vaccinated people.
Unvaccinated people should continue to wear a mask.
Masks will still be required on public transit, in schools & some communal settings. Private venues may require masks.

Although to many people it seems a risk because not all the city is vaccinated, others think it is time to start their normal vaccinations.
