Man ‘beaten into coma’ after asking neighbors to turn down music volume
The beating that took place more than a month ago left the man in a coma. The man’s family says they don’t know if he will survive.
Frank Penkava, 42, a Hollywood resident, is in an induced coma at Memorial Regional Hospital with multiple fractures to his face after the vicious June 14 attack.
On Tuesday, the man remained hospitalized while doctors waited for Penkava to stabilize before he could undergo surgery, according to WPLG .
“My son has a boy. He’s going to be 4 years old, he’s precious and he may never meet his father,” Penkava’s mother, Joan, told the news outlet.
”We don’t know what damage has been done mentally, not to mention all the physical problems he has. It’s very disheartening,” the mother added.
Frustrated sister calls for justice
Doctors are monitoring the man’s brain activity to check for permanent brain damage.
His sister, Gina Horvath, said he has several broken bones and also contracted an infection in the hospital.
Horvath previously told NBC News that she believes her brother was attacked when he asked his neighbors to turn down the music.
There is no reason for what they did to him. ‘I understand that people get into altercations all the time and people’s emotions are running high, especially in the last year, but there was nothing to justify what they did to him,’ she said.
‘He went to work, did his job and paid his bills. He didn’t bother anyone. So for someone to do what they did to him, I’m looking for justice and I won’t stop until I have justice for my brother,” Horvath said.
