The victims were found Sunday night at a farm in Lancaster, a city north of Los Angeles in the high desert of the Antelope Valley, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a press release.

The woman, a girl and three boys had gunshot wounds to the upper torso and were pronounced dead at the scene. None of the victims have been publicly identified.

The four minor victims were no older than 12 years old, and one of the children was an infant, police said. The bodies were found by the children’s mother, who is also the daughter of the murdered woman, FOX LA reported.

Police announced Monday the arrest of the children’s father, identified by FOX LA as Germarcus David, 29. David was taken into custody for questioning after he showed up at the Lancaster police station shortly after the events.

LACSD deputy spokeswoman Juanita Navarro noted that officers were dispatched to the 3500 block of Garnet Lane just before 10:30 p.m. in a “rescue response,” meaning paramedics had already been dispatched to the scene.

The motive for the attack remains unclear as the investigation is ongoing. Jail records show that David’s bail was set at US$2 million.
