An Oklahoma man was arrested and charged with first-degree rape for allegedly impregnating a 12-year-old girl. “They came in like any couple would, excited about their first baby.”
Man arrested after 12-year-old girl arrives at hospital about to give birth
Juan Miranda-Jara, 24, was admitted to Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa on July 14 with a girl in full labor, FOX23 reported.
Doctors called police and told them they had a rape victim and arrested Miranda-Jara. According to reports, Miranda-Jara had told officers that he was the father of the child and didn’t seem to understand what all the fuss was about.
“They came in like any other couple would, excited to give birth to their newborn son,” said Tulsa Police Officer Danny Bean.
Fox News contacted the Tulsa Police Department seeking more information, but did not receive a response prior to publication. The details of Miranda-Jara’s relationship with the 12-year-old girl are unclear at this time.
“We know there are a lot of people in the community who are shocked by this, disgusted by this, disturbed by this, have questions, a whole range of emotions,” Danny Bean said.
“But over time we’ll be able to give the community the answers they want. We just don’t have all the answers right now to give them, and we don’t want to compromise the investigation that’s still ongoing and, really, at this point.”
Miranda-Jara is being held on $50,000 bail. Her first court hearing is scheduled for Aug. 26. The Tulsa police official said it is possible Miranda-Jara could face more charges depending on the outcome of the investigation.
