Fans of the London Knights celebrate a record-breaking teddy bear toss during a winning streak.

The London Knights have made headlines once again, not just for their impressive performance on the ice but also for their heartwarming contribution to the community. On December 4, 2024, the Knights celebrated a remarkable teddy bear toss event, collecting a staggering 15,926 teddy bears for the Salvation Army.

This achievement coincided with their 3-0 victory over the Owen Sound Attack, marking their 19th consecutive win, a feat that places them among the elite in Ontario Hockey League (OHL) history.

Historic teddy bear toss event

The teddy bear toss has become a cherished tradition in junior hockey, and this year, the Knights have set a new benchmark.

Fans eagerly brought their teddy bears to the game, ready to toss them onto the ice when the Knights scored their first goal. The excitement reached a peak when Landon Sim scored the much-anticipated goal, sending a wave of plush toys cascading onto the rink.

This event not only showcases the community’s spirit but also highlights the Knights’ commitment to giving back.

Extending the winning streak

With this victory, the Knights have surpassed the legendary Team of the Century from the 2004-05 season, now holding the fifth-longest winning streak in OHL history.

The team’s success can be attributed to standout performances from players like Easton Cowan, who extended his point streak to an impressive 55 consecutive regular-season games. Meanwhile, goaltender Austin Elliott improved his record to 11-0, earning his second shutout of the season.

The Knights outshot the Attack 48-23, demonstrating their dominance on the ice.

Player accolades and upcoming challenges

The Knights’ success has not gone unnoticed, with several players receiving weekly and monthly honors. Blake Montgomery was named OHL Player of the Week after an outstanding performance, while Alexei Medvedev earned Rookie and Goalie of the Week accolades.

Medvedev’s impressive stats, including a 6-0 record and a .935 save percentage, have solidified his position as a rising star in the league. Additionally, Sam Dickinson was recognized as both Player and Defenceman of the Month, showcasing the depth of talent within the Knights’ roster.

As the Knights prepare for their next challenge against the Oshawa Generals on December 6, the anticipation is palpable. With 14 returning players from last year’s championship team, the Generals will undoubtedly present a formidable challenge. Fans can tune in to the game on 980 CFPL and through the iHeart Radio and Radioplayer Canada apps, as the Knights aim to continue their winning streak and make more history.
