Huge crocodile rumored to have eaten 300 people still at large
Nicknamed Gustave, the large Nile crocodile is said to be a bee from Burundi, Africa, and is famous for being a man-eater, responsible for the deaths of locals.
The killer crocodile is said to weigh more than a ton and is about six meters long.
Even hunters are afraid of it.
Gustave has been studied for years, and some suggest he could be around 100 years old, while others have said he is more likely to be around 60 because his dental arch is intact.
Legend has it that he was even shot three times and has scars as a result of hunters trying to kill him.
Where the big crocodiles go, so do the hunters. As a result of his growing fame, French hunter Patrice Faye once decided to kill Gustave.
However, his trap did not work.
Faye told the BBC in 2002, “We set [the trap] in the Ruzizi [a river in Central Africa], put bait inside and spent the whole night in the river with cameras.
“But it was a total failure. The crocodile was parading outside the cage, taunting us, and we couldn’t catch it.”
Faye concluded that in the three months he was there, Gustave ate about 17 people.
He said, “I calculated that if he had been killing people for 20 years at this rate, he would have eaten more than 300 people by now.”
