High school teacher accused of killing and eating man she met on dating website
The math and chemistry teacher, who has only been identified in German media as Stefan R under the nation’s strict privacy laws, was in court today after allegedly killing a power line technician and eating body parts.
Stefan R, 41, allegedly met the 43-year-old victim, who has only been identified as Stefan T, on a dating website last year.
He is accused of killing Stefan T, cutting the body into pieces and dumping it at various locations in Berlin. The suspect sat upright and motionless in the dock as the indictment against him was read out in a Berlin regional court.
Stefan R’s legal team told the audience that it would not comment on the charges against him at this time. The prosecution said it will argue that there was a “sadistic-cannibalistic sexual motivation for the crime” after the suspect allegedly ate parts of the corpse.
Stefan T’s roommates reported him missing when he failed to return after leaving last September shortly before midnight. Two months after the victim was reported missing, a dog walker found a human leg bone in a wooded area in a Berlin suburb.
Forensic tests confirmed that the remains belonged to Stefan T. This development escalated the case from a missing person to a murder investigation.
Sniffer dogs were able to find more bones throughout the city. Prosecutors claimed today that there was no evidence that Stefan T had “consented” to his murder.
Prosecutors say saws and knives were found in the defendant’s apartment, as well as traces of blood and several kilograms of a chemical substance.
The trial is expected to last until mid-October.
