The incident unfolded on a Wednesday when a crew from the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) was clearing a tree from State Route 48 in Dickson.
While working, they heard a distressing sound emanating from a nearby creek, prompting them to investigate further.
Upon reaching the source of the noise, the crew discovered Apollo trapped and injured in the ravine. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, they quickly alerted a nearby Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper who was on a traffic assignment.
