Bravery in the face of danger
In a heart-stopping incident that unfolded early Sunday morning in Granbury, Texas, a volunteer firefighter showcased extraordinary courage by rescuing a 2-year-old boy from a burning apartment building. The dramatic rescue was captured on video, highlighting the quick actions of the North Hood County Volunteer Fire Department as they responded to an emergency call that would test their skills and resolve.
The rescue operation
The fire was reported to Hood County 911 around 3 a.m., prompting immediate dispatch of firefighters to the scene on Parkwood Lane. Upon arrival, the team quickly assessed the situation, realizing that a toddler was trapped on the second floor.
Firefighter J. Head, identified through a Facebook post, bravely broke the window of the bedroom to facilitate the rescue. With the help of his colleagues, including another firefighter named Serratelli, they managed to reach the frightened child, who was instructed to come towards their voices.
Aftermath and community response
Once safely out of the building, the young boy was treated on-site before being airlifted to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth for further evaluation. Fortunately, Liam Keen’s mother, Phylicia, reported that while he suffered from some carbon monoxide poisoning, his condition was stable following chest X-rays and blood tests.
Expressing her heartfelt gratitude, she thanked the firefighters for their swift actions, emphasizing that they often do not receive the recognition they deserve. This incident serves as a reminder of the vital role that volunteer firefighters play in our communities, risking their lives to save others.
