Hailey Baldwin has opened up about the challenges of her first year of marriage to Justin Bieber
Bieber, 27, has spoken about his experience of depression, which he struggled with after marrying Baldwin, 24.
The couple discussed the early stages of their respective struggles on the podcast In Good Faith with Chelsea & Judah Smith, with Baldwin revealing that her mother, Kennya Baldwin, convinced her to stay with the singer at a particularly difficult stage.
“I remember calling her several times, one time in particular when we were in Brooklyn and I called her and she was crying and I said, ‘I can’t do this. There’s no way I can do this if it’s going to be like this forever,'” she revealed.
“And I remember she was so calm on the phone and she said, ‘It’s going to pass and you’re going to be okay and he’s going to be healthy and we’re here for you.’ And I feel like we had a lot of support.”
Reflecting on the importance of the moment, Baldwin continued, “I feel like if I hadn’t had support, it would have been 10 times harder, and it was already the hardest thing in my life at that point, so I also think I was already in that.
“I made a decision. I know for a fact that I’ve loved this person for a long time and now would not be the time to give up on her. I just wouldn’t do that to her.”
In September 2021, Baldwin put to rest allegations that Bieber “mistreats” her.
