Gabby Petito’s mother says she believes Brian Laundrie’s family knows about her daughter’s murder
Nicole Schmidt told “60 Minutes Australia” that the family’s “silence speaks volumes” after Petito was found strangled to death in Wyoming and Laundrie disappeared last month.
“I think they probably know, if not all, most of the information,” he added.
“I’d love to ask them face-to-face why they’re doing this, just tell me the truth.”
Petito and Laundrie, who were engaged, embarked on a cross-country road trip in July and were documenting all of their stops on the Internet.
In the interview, Petito’s mother recalled receiving calls, texts and FaceTime calls every day from the road.
On September 1, Laundrie returned home to North Port, Florida, but without Petito.
Her parents reported her missing on Sept. 11.
Laundrie was then reported missing on Sept.
17, when her parents claimed she had gone for a walk at the Carlton Preserve in Florida, and then changed the date they claimed to have last seen her.
Petito’s body was found in Wyoming on September 21 in Grand Teton National Park.
Her death was ruled a homicide.
Petito’s stepfather, Joe Schmidt, said he didn’t understand why the laundromats didn’t contact them when something seemed to go wrong.
“If Brian stayed at my house and Gabby came back to my house without him in his vehicle, I’d be on the phone with his parents saying ‘We have a problem.
We have some things we need to talk about, like, ‘Now. Call me,'” he continued.
“It’s torture, if they’re hiding something and they don’t want to let us know. Yeah, that’s cruel,” he added.
