Former US President Donald Trump said Thursday that his successor, Joe Biden, who has blamed him for the assault on the US Capitol a year ago and for preferring his ego over democracy, has used him “to divide.”
Donald Trump accuses Biden of using him to divide America and insists election was rigged
“He used my name to try to further divide America,” he said in a statement Trump, who last Tuesday canceled a press conference scheduled for Thursday at his residence in Mar-a-Lago (Florida).
Biden has blamed Thursday the Republican for creating a “web of lies” about the 2020 elections and inciting his supporters to storm the Capitol. “His bruised ego matters more to him than our democracy and our Constitution. He can’t accept that he lost,” Biden has said in a speech from Congress on the first anniversary of the attack that left five dead and 140 officers wounded.
In response to Biden, Trump has again insisted that the “rigged” 2020 presidential election, in which he lost to the Democrat, should be discussed. “They got away with it and it’s leading to the destruction of our country,” he has said.
“The Democrats want to own Jan. 6”
The Republican has added that Biden is destroying the country with “crazy open borders policies, corrupt elections, disastrous energy policies, unconstitutional mandates and devastating school closings.” And he has added about the assault on the Capitol, “Democrats want to own this day on January 6 to stoke fears and divide America.”
In addition, Trump has criticized the media, by refusing to refer to the alleged electoral fraud as the “Big Lie”. Last Tuesday Trump indicated that he was canceling his appointment with the press due to “the total bias” of the Committee investigating the assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
A poll released Thursday by the Knight Foundation indicates that a majority of Americans believe the assault on the Capitol by Trump supporters was an illegitimate manifestation of free speech
