Former President Donald Trump praised Vladimir Putin whom he called “smart” while calling U.S. leaders “fools” as Russia pressed ahead with its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in the face of fierce resistance.
Former President Trump praises Putin and criticizes Biden
As world leaders rallied to condemn the Russian president and impose broad sanctions on his government and oligarch allies, Trump reaffirmed his earlier comments about Putin.
“Yesterday reporters asked me if I thought President Putin is smart. I replied that of course he’s smart,” he told the crowd at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando, Florida, notes the Independent.
“The problem is not that Putin is smart – which of course he is – it’s that our leaders are dumb,” he said, adding that NATO nations “are not so much smart as they look like the opposite of smart.”
Trump went on to blame the Biden administration for Russia’s decision to invade its neighbor, an attack that was justified by Putin’s false claims that Ukraine was run by “drug-addicted, neo-Nazi” leaders.
