Preparing for a major electoral event
Elections Ontario is in full swing as it prepares for the upcoming snap election, which will see approximately 10.8 million eligible voters participating. The organization is taking significant steps to ensure that the electoral process runs smoothly and efficiently.
This includes a robust recruitment campaign aimed at hiring over 55,000 workers to assist with various roles during the election period. The hiring initiative is crucial, as it will help facilitate the voting process across the province.
Job opportunities and roles available
The recruitment campaign launched by Elections Ontario invites Ontarians to apply for a variety of positions at polling stations. There are 14 different roles available, catering to a wide range of skills and availability. Key positions include information assistants, who will greet and assist voters at polling locations, ensuring they have a positive experience.
Other roles involve overseeing vote tabulators, which are essential for counting ballots accurately. The pay for these positions varies, with information assistants earning around $20 per hour, while more specialized roles can pay up to $29.50 per hour.
Voting options for everyone
In addition to hiring efforts, Elections Ontario is also enhancing the voting experience for residents. Voters will have multiple options to cast their ballots, including voting by mail, visiting a local election office, or voting in person on election day.
Advanced voting will be available from February 20 to 22, allowing electors to vote at any advance polling station in their district. For those who may face challenges in accessing polling stations due to health or mobility issues, Elections Ontario offers the option of home or hospital visits to ensure that everyone can participate in the democratic process.
