When the world entered the fray during World War II, young Monnik announced himself to do his part to put an end to white supremacy and hatred in the world.
Before and after Hitler and his Nazis fought, Monnik lived in Detroit, Michigan. Because he loved the city, he stayed all his life and built a happy life for himself.
But it all came crashing down on him when suddenly Monnik came in contact with 17-year-old George Steward.
The teenager had allegedly killed the World War II veteran by burning him alive.
The crude act of violence could not have been more evil. According to reports, the teenager doused the veteran with gasoline and then lit him up like a torch.
Scott Monnik, the victim’s son, 56, came to the scene of the fire. It was the boy’s childhood, but it was nothing like he remembered. The place where he grew up and played as a child was in ashes and his father was dead.
The World War II veteran was beaten before his body was doused with gasoline and set on fire as he was completely bathed in blood before he burned to death.
The victim’s son described the scene as a “scene from hell.”
Scott added, “He was not prejudiced, had no malice and was a good-hearted man. He worked very hard to support his family, and he wanted to live to be 100 but this kid interrupted him.”
The teenager could receive a sentence of up to sixty years for the crime he caused. The teenager has pleaded guilty.
