Eight-year-old girl dies and two children are injured in shooting in North Carolina
Ah’miyahh Howell, who has been named by her family as the deceased victim in the shooting, was playing outside a home in Statesville with a nine-year-old boy when a suspect driving a car shot at them.
Just 90 minutes later, a 10-year-old boy was wounded in another alleged drive-by shooting.
The Stateville Police Department said it does not believe children are the “intended targets” and called on the public who may have witnessed “innocent children” to concede to contact them.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting and rushed to 1309 Wilson Lee Boulevard at 6:56 p.m. Monday.
Police said in a statement that they found a nine-year-old girl and a seven-year-old boy with gunshot wounds. But in statements to DailyMail.com, family members identified Ah-miyahh as the victim and said he was eight years old. They also said the boy was Al’miyahh’s cousin and was nine years old.
When officers arrived at the scene, life-saving efforts began before medics arrived and took them to the hospital.
Witnesses told police that a white car, believed to be a Mercedes, was traveling southbound in the 1300 block of Wilson Lee Boulevard and that the suspect was firing shots from inside the vehicle, police said in a statement.
Ah’miyahh later died at the hospital as a result of his injuries.
