Spain continues to lead the world in organ donors
Health authorities insist on the importance of organ and tissue donation. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, which resulted in a 10% drop, Spain continues to lead the world ranking of organ donors.
Last year, 1,777 deceased donors and 270 living donors were registered in our country, which allowed 4,427 transplants to be performed. In total, 2,702 kidney transplants, 1,034 liver transplants, 278 heart transplants, 336 lung transplants, 73 pancreas transplants and 4 intestinal transplants were performed.
A slight decrease in the 2020 figures, with respect to the previous year, which this year has already begun to rebound, with an increase of 6%.
