Donald Trump is among the worst presidents in U.S. history
Abraham Lincoln was the greatest president in U.S. history according to a group of distinguished historians surveyed by C-SPAN. He surpassed George Washington and Franklin D. Roosevelt.
The poll leaves Trump with little to brag about. True, he is not the worst president in U.S. history according to the 142 historians surveyed.
But Trump ranks 41st among the 44 commanders-in-chief. Even William Henry Harrison, whose tenure lasted just 31 days, received higher ratings.
What’s worse for Trump, who was obsessed with dismantling and discrediting his predecessor’s legacy, is that Barack Obama ranked far above him, in fact Obama ranked in the top 10 overall.
C-SPAN asked historians to rate the list of 44 men on ten leadership qualities.
(There have been 46 presidents, including Joe Biden, who was not ranked, but Grover Cleveland held the office twice.) In the realm of moral authority, Trump was the last to die.
Even Richard Nixon, who sabotaged a peace agreement in Vietnam for political gain, introduced carpet bombing in Cambodia, and presided over the Watergate scandal before resigning in disgrace, received a higher rating in that category.
Trump also ranked at the bottom in managerial skills. The survey is conducted each time a new administration takes office.
