A child falls from a seventh-story window in Detroit and is determined to have sustained a serious head injury due to the impact

The Detroit Fire Department says a boy who fell from the seventh floor of a building is in critical condition, after originally being told he appeared uninjured in the fall.

According to Deputy Fire Commissioner Fornell, the young boy had cuts and was in a “changed mental state” and may have a head injury.

Fornell said that when they arrived on the scene, the boy’s mother held the child and he appeared unharmed.

Authorities transported the child to Detroit Children’s Hospital, where it was determined he had sustained a head injury.

Detroit police were called to the New Center Pavilion Apartments at 666 W. Bethune Street a little after 9 a.m.

Friday morning.

Sharon Moore lives nearby and said she heard someone yell that someone’s baby fell out of the window, immediately contacted 911 as she immediately went downstairs to check on the child.

“I don’t know how the child got out unscathed, but it’s hard, it’s very hard to see something like that,” she said.

According to Detroit police, the baby was a 2-year-old boy and the child’s mother used the bathroom while the child was sleeping. The baby woke up and leaned against the window screen.

Detroit police said the child had no notable injuries but was taken as a precaution to the hospital.

According to Detroit Police, it appears to be a complete accident. While Detroit Police and Child Protective Services are continuing investigations.
