A 3-year-old girl died the day of the accident and a 4-month-old girl died in the hospital a couple of days later, Houston police confirmed.
Houston police confirmed that two young children were killed in a crash last week that began with a stray load on I-69, the Eastex Freeway.
The accident occurred south of Laura Koppe in the northbound lanes of the freeway Wednesday morning.
Stating that a woman, 23, stopped to avoid a platform of metal debris blocking a moving lane. Investigators said the debris was part of a missing load from a crash that occurred about 10 minutes earlier.
As the woman attempted to go around the metal, her Chevrolet Traverse was struck by a Ford Taurus. Both vehicles then spun around.
Police said a 3-year-old girl in the Chevrolet was transported to Texas Children’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead. A 4-month-old girl in the same vehicle went to the hospital in critical condition and died two days later.
The driver of the Ford suffered a broken leg and went to the hospital. Neither driver faces charges.
Police said they have not located the big rig that was involved in the earlier lost cargo incident.
