Controversy over the high prices of Salt Bae’s new restaurant: “£37,000 dinner”
There is controversy over Salt Bae’s new restaurant at the Park Tower Hotel in Knightsbridge, London, and in particular over its exorbitant prices: one user posted a photo of a receipt for a dinner in which he spent £37,000, including £4,000 for service alone.
Salt Bae: controversy over the restaurant’s prices
The restaurant is owned by Turkish chef-entrepreneur and restaurateur Nusret Gökçe, who became famous in 2017 for his unusual way of salting meat, the chain has ended up at the center of social debate for the stellar prices it proposes in its new London restaurant.
One user posted on Reddit the receipt for a dinner that cost more than £37,000, showing the exorbitant prices for alcohol (which cost almost £30,000) but also for a steak, which cost £850.
The cheapest items, apart from water, were mashed potatoes and sautéed mushrooms, which cost £12 each.
In response to posting the photo of the receipt, one Reddit user said, “Daylight robbery. With Michelin it would cost about 37 times less.”
However, many users felt the fault lay with the customers: “The receipts from this place are nothing more than the latest social media flex. Why do people keep posting receipts from a m*ck restaurant? It’s a little inconsiderate to admit to being rich, but also very stupid.”
Salt Bae, pricing controversy: negative reviews deleted.
The restaurant has also been accused of deleting negative reviews after a photo of the rip-off went viral and sparked debate.
According to My London, many reviews that appeared to criticize the restaurant have suddenly disappeared.
