Colorado man suffers severe abuse at home from mother bear
A bear grabbed a man after he found the creature and his two children in his garage in Colorado Sunday night.
The Steamboat-Springs man was taken to the hospital for severe cuts and wounds to his head and legs.
He is expected to survive, according to a statement issued by Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
The explanation said the man possessed stored birdseed and other food in his garage and that’s what made it to the mother bear and her two children.
At 11 p.m. Sunday night, the man noticed that his garage door was open.
This is the first time a bear attack has occurred in Steamboat Springs, the northern Colorado area.
“This is an unfortunate reminder that we must be vigilant and ‘on the lookout’ at all times,” said Kyle Bond, wildlife manager.
“Easy access to food will always override a bear’s natural fear, so people need to be vigilant about keeping all food sources safe.”

Last month, a 39-year-old woman from Durango, southwestern Colorado, was killed in a bear attack. Human remains were found in the stomach of the mother bear and one of the children.
Steve McClung, Assistant Wildlife Manager for Colorado Parks and Wildlife Area in Durango, said in a statement, “Remember we are back in season when bears are active.
So please remove trash and remove bird food.”
McCleung continued, “The last thing we want to do is euthanize a bear. All the wildlife officers absolutely hate it. So don’t hesitate to call us as soon as you see misbehavior, even if it seems minor.”
