New charges against James Craig
James Toliver Craig, a 45-year-old dentist from Colorado, has recently been hit with serious new charges while he awaits trial for the alleged murder of his wife, Angela Craig. The 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office announced that Craig is now facing charges of solicitation to commit first-degree murder and solicitation to commit perjury.
These charges come on the heels of his initial arrest for the first-degree murder of his wife, who tragically died in March 2023 due to poisoning.
Angela Craig, a mother of six, was found to have been poisoned with cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, a substance commonly found in over-the-counter eye drops.
Despite the overwhelming evidence against him, Craig has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge. The new allegations suggest that while in custody, he attempted to recruit a fellow inmate to murder an Aurora police detective who was investigating Angela’s death.
Details of the alleged plot
According to court records and multiple sources, Craig allegedly tried to orchestrate the murder of the detective, who was actively working on the case surrounding his wife’s suspicious death. The intended victim has not been publicly named, but police spokesperson Joe Moylan confirmed that the plot was directed at an Aurora detective.
The inmate approached by Craig has not been charged with any wrongdoing in connection with this alleged conspiracy.
This is not the first time Craig has been accused of attempting to manipulate the investigation. Earlier this year, he allegedly asked another inmate to plant fake suicide notes in his home to create the illusion that Angela had taken her own life.
This inmate reported the request to authorities, believing that the letters were actually written by Craig himself.
Evidence against Craig
Investigators have uncovered a series of alarming actions taken by Craig leading up to his wife’s death. Reports indicate that he created a secret email account and conducted online searches for phrases like “How to make murder look like a heart attack” and “How to make poison.” Just days before Angela’s death, she visited the hospital multiple times, suffering from symptoms that included vertigo and cold lips.
Authorities also discovered that Craig had ordered potassium cyanide to his dental practice, further implicating him in the crime.
In addition to these disturbing findings, it has been revealed that Craig was allegedly involved in an extramarital affair during the time of his wife’s illness. He reportedly flew his orthodontist lover from Austin to Denver while Angela was gravely ill, exchanging explicit emails during this period. This affair, combined with the financial troubles the couple faced, paints a troubling picture of Craig’s motives.
What’s next for Craig?
Craig’s trial, initially set to begin on November 21, has been postponed due to his defense attorney’s withdrawal from the case, citing a “professional conflict.” The next hearing is scheduled for December 16, where further developments in this high-profile case are expected. As the investigation continues, the community remains on edge, eager for justice for Angela Craig and answers to the many questions surrounding her untimely death.
