Chocolate cicadas are already for sale, needing only some stomach and a little chocolate to turn a pest into a bite.
Chocolate-covered cicadas are on sale in the United States
Following this year’s Brut X invasion, a Maryland bakery has created in insectalkers in cocoa and spices.
All it takes is a little chocolate to turn an event much like the plagues of Egypt into a baking business.
Sarah Dwyer, explains how she prepares this curious treat: “They’re very crispy because we roast them in an air fryer. So first we clean them, then we roast them, and finally we dip them in chocolate and sprinkle them with a spice of your choice.”
More information can be found on the bakery’s Instagram profile: “For those, who feels brave enough, there are also traditional pralines in the form of CIGARS.”
The insects in the Bon Bon version can be purchased online: The cicadas used by Chouquette Chocolates are collected in the nearby cities of Silver Spring, Gaithersburg and Potomac MD, the website commented.
A dozen chocolate-dipped insects cost $22.
They are sold in three different variants: milk chocolate and Old Bay (a traditional American spice blend), milk chocolate and cinnamon, or dark chocolate and cinnamon.
