Recent arson incidents involving Tesla vehicles
In a concerning series of events, Calgary police are reaching out to the community for assistance in identifying a person of interest linked to two recent arson investigations. Both incidents involved Tesla vehicles, raising alarms about potential targeted attacks on electric cars.
The first incident occurred on March 18, 2025, when a woman parked her 2023 Tesla Model Y at a charging station located at 314 – 12 Avenue S.E. Shortly after parking, she received a notification that her vehicle had stopped charging.
Upon checking, she was horrified to see her car engulfed in flames.
Details of the investigations
Emergency services were promptly alerted, and both police and fire crews responded to the scene. Investigators have indicated that evidence suggests the fire was deliberately set using an accelerant, indicating a clear intent to cause damage.
Police are now urging anyone who parked in the vicinity of 314 – 12 Avenue S.E. between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. on that fateful Tuesday to review their vehicle’s camera footage and reach out to authorities.
The following evening, another fire was reported at a Tesla storage lot located at 6812 Fairmount Dr.
S.E. This time, a 2025 Tesla Cybertruck was the target. Similar to the previous incident, arson investigators concluded that this fire was also likely intentionally set with the use of an accelerant. The police believe that both incidents are connected, intensifying the urgency for public assistance.
