Butterfly or snake: the new optical illusion taking Twitter by storm

Everyone remembers the dilemma of white and gold or blue and black dress or the green or pink Vans, now comes this photograph of what could be a butterfly… Or a three-headed snake.

This debate arose on Twitter following a post by a user in which he showed some photographs of an atlas butterfly, a large moth that inhabits Southeast Asia.

As he commented in the post, “the Atlas Attacus is one of the largest butterflies in the world and lives for only two weeks with one goal in its adult stage: to lay eggs and defend them until they hatch while disguised as a snake.”

Many users, despite the description of the post, claimed that it was a strange three-headed snake. The reality is that it is indeed an atlas butterfly, which spreads its wings to camouflage itself when it feels threatened.

When it spreads its wings, its appearance resembles that of three snakes in order to protect itself from possible predators. According to experts, this species can reach 25 to 30 centimeters, a considerable size for a butterfly.

The atlas butterfly is famous precisely for its camouflage techniques, something that has undoubtedly made it a hit on social networks.
