Brothers kill stepfather for sexually abusing their 9-year-old sister
Those arrested are Alexandro and Christian Treviño, 18 and 17, plus Juan Eduardo Melendez, 18, for the alleged murder of Gabriel Quintanilla, 42, Weslaco affiliate KRGV reported.
Last Thursday afternoon, Pharr Police Department officers responded to a 911 call from a farmer who told the operator he had discovered the body of a deceased man in one of his fields.
According to The Monitor newspaper of McAllen, Texas, the man was identified as Gabriel Quintanilla, who had an arrest warrant for continuous sexual abuse of a child and assault.
Pharr police said in a press release that Quintanilla’s 9-year-old daughter, whose name was not released, provoked a “protest” after alleging that the man touched her inappropriately at a trailer park about 15 minutes east of McAllen. The girl allegedly told Alexandro and Christian about the alleged inappropriate touching.
“When brothers Alexandro and Christian Treviño found out, they became enraged and confronted Gabriel Quintanilla at the residence. A physical fight ensued between the three and the victim Quintanilla left the scene on foot,” the statement said.
The youths used “American fists” for the brutal beating
Police said Christian chased Quintanilla on foot in front of an apartment complex down the street where a second assault occurred when Alexandro Treviño and the driver of a red Dodge Charger, Juan Eduardo Melendez, caught up to him and joined in the assault on the man.
The three defendants allegedly left the scene of the second assault in Meléndez’s car. They then changed vehicles and returned to the scene in a Ford F-150 pickup truck, where they found the injured Quintanilla walking and assaulted him for the third and final time.
After the brutal beating, they transferred the man to the truck bed and dumped him in an open field in the area of McColl and Whalen Road, then fled.
Investigators in the case believe the suspects used American fists to repeatedly punch Quintanilla in the face, resulting in severe head trauma that ultimately caused his death.
