Britney Spears’ guardianship ends after 13 years

This Friday, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny said that the singer has lived many years under her father’s guardianship and that it was no longer necessary to continue this way, so she has released Britney Spears.

This afternoon, the Los Angeles Superior Court ruled that the guardianship that has overseen the singer’s finances for 13 years should end as of today.

It was in June of this year, that Britney Spears, 39, told the court that the conservatorship stripped her of control over almost every aspect of her life, and revealed how it had traumatized and exploited her.

So she was asking for it to end without having to undergo additional mental evaluations.

After 13 years it was all over

So after years of living under guardianship, this Friday, Judge Penny assured that “Guardianship of the person and property of Britney Jean Spears is no longer required,” leaving the singer free.

However, the judge also explained that they are still working on the details of Britney Spears’ new financial life.

It was in 2008, when James P. Spears, Britney’s father, who is known as Jamie, first petitioned the court for guardianship over his adult daughter’s life and finances, citing mental health issues and possible substance abuse.

The temporary guardianship became permanent later that year.

Since then, the singer’s dad has entered into professional contracts on the pop star’s behalf, purchased all of her travel and recorded all of her purchases, including her Starbucks drink.
