Breaking barriers in aviation: Women leading the way
Aviation has long been viewed as a male-dominated field, but the tide is turning. With women like Tracy Medve, CEO of KF Aerospace, at the helm, the industry is witnessing a significant shift.

Medve’s leadership is not just about breaking glass ceilings; it’s about creating a culture where women can thrive and contribute their unique skills to aviation.

Women in aviation: A growing presence

Under Medve’s guidance, KF Aerospace is on a mission to increase its female workforce to 25% by 2025.

This ambitious goal reflects a broader trend in the aviation sector, where women are increasingly taking on roles traditionally held by men. Medve emphasizes that women excel in areas like attention to detail and multitasking, which are crucial in aviation.

“They bring a lot to the table,” she asserts, highlighting the diverse skill set women offer in this challenging industry.

Inspiring the next generation

Medve’s journey in aviation spans over 40 years, earning her a place in Canada’s Aviation Hall of Fame.

She is not just a leader but also a mentor, sharing her experiences to inspire young women to consider careers in aviation. “It’s about making sure that they understand that it is an industry that they can be in and have a great career,” she explains.

This message is vital for encouraging more women to explore the various opportunities available in aviation, from engineering to maintenance.

Celebrating women in aviation

As part of the International Women’s Day celebrations, Medve and other industry leaders, including Stacy Tober, a project supervisor and licensed aircraft maintenance engineer, are sharing their stories to inspire future generations.

Tober, who has spent 20 years climbing the ranks at KF Aerospace, believes that anyone can pursue a career in aviation. “There are many different trades in aviation,” she says, emphasizing that the industry is inclusive and offers various paths for individuals of all backgrounds.

Events like Women of Aviation Worldwide Week serve as platforms to highlight the achievements of women in the field and encourage young girls to dream big. With role models like Medve and Tober leading the charge, the future of aviation looks brighter and more inclusive than ever.
