The boyfriend of Gabrielle Petito, who went missing on Long Island, New York, has been identified as a person of interest in her disappearance, Florida authorities announced Wednesday during a news conference.

North Port police want to speak with Brian Laundrie , but have been unable to meet with him to discuss what happened to Petito.
Josh Taylor, a police spokesman, told reporters that officers knocked on the door of Laundrie’s parents’ home. The department asked if they could meet with Laundrie and his parents, but were asked to contact his attorney.
Taylor said Laundrie had been home for 10 days before Petito’s parents reported him missing.
Taylor said a search warrant has not been issued for Laundrie’s home, where Brian and Petito lived prior to their cross-country trip.
Petito was reported missing on Aug. 25.
Petito last had contact with family members on Aug.
25, when he was near Grand Teton National Park in Jackson, Wyoming.
Petito and Laundrie were crossing the United States in a white 2012 Ford Transit van with Florida plates. Friends and family told Newsday that Petito had been documenting their travels on YouTube.
Petito and Laundrie began their journey by traveling from Florida to New York. Last month, they arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah, and stayed for a short time as smoke from wildfires blanketed the region.
The couple reportedly stopped in Grand Teton National Park on Aug.
25 before heading to Yellowstone. Petito is a white female, approximately 5 feet tall and 110 pounds.
She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and several tattoos, including one on her finger and another on her forearm that reads “let it be.”
