A murder investigation is underway after a blind woman report her husband missing, but he was dead in his bed. A search inside the property led to the discovery.
Blind woman calls 911 to report her husband missing: police find him shot dead in bed
William Robert Lang Jr, 76, was reported to police after his visually impaired wife claimed she had not spoken to him since the evening of the previous day.
She told police this was “unusual,” the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana said.
Police visited the couple’s home Wednesday after 6 p.m. and found no missing car, but a window was broken.
A search inside the property led to the startling discovery of Mr. Lang, who had been shot several times.
Police have yet to explain how the woman did not hear the shots or find the body, but a murder investigation was launched and an autopsy was performed.
The 70-year-old woman had not spoken to her husband for 24 hours. An autopsy ruled the cause of death a homicide.
Sheriff Stuart Wright said, “Our investigators are working tirelessly in an effort to arrest the individual or individuals involved in Mr. Lang’s murder. We extend our deepest condolences to the Lang family.”
Facebook posts indicate that Lang ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate as a conservative in 2010.
